Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Osiris Eldridge posted 13 points and nine rebounds as the Illinois State Redbirds captured a 51-46 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers in Missouri Valley Conference action at Redbird Arena.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Redbirds (12-3, 4-0 MVC) as they remained undefeated in league action.
The Panthers (10-5, 2-2) were paced by Adam Koch who logged a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Jared Josten checked in with 10 points in the team's second defeat in as many games.
Illinois State began the night with a 5-0 run and then put together a 15-0 run later in the first half, resulting in a commanding 36-19 advantage at the break.
In the second half the lead grew to as many as 21 points, before UNI put together a 17-0 run of its own. Josten's two free throws with two minutes to play pulled the visitors to within a point at 47-46, but in the end it was free throws down the stretch by ISU that put the game out of reach.
Ironically, neither team shot the ball particularly well at the charity stripe, as the Panthers converted 14-of-23 and Illinois State a mere 5-of-13 on the night.
