Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Sherron Collins had 18 points as third-ranked Kansas crushed Loyola-Maryland, 90-60, at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.
Darrell Arthur had 14 points and five rebounds while Sasha Kaun added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Jayhawks (15-0), who have double-digit wins in 12 of their 15 games this season.
"I think we just came out a little bit flat, not really into the game," Kaun said. "We picked it up. We finally got a lead, but we didn't play very well to start."
Gerald Brown had 13 points with eight rebound and eight turnovers while Marquis Sullivan added 12 points for the Greyhounds (6-9), who have dropped four of their last five games.
The teams started the game slowly as Kansas held just an 8-3 lead on Kaun's slam a bit less than six minutes in.
Loyola kept it a close game through much of the first half and trailed by four points, 20-16, on a layup from Michael Tuck with 7:26 left.
However, the Jayhawks later went on a 13-0 run towards the end of the first half and eventually took a 41-24 lead into the locker room.
"We just got a little over-excited. Playing against the No. 3 team in the country, anybody would be excited," Brown said. "We just came out and made a few mistakes and they converted on them. That will happen anytime, even if it's the No. 1 team playing the No. 2 team. Our hopes were high, and it brought us down a little bit."
Kansas started the second half shooting and used a 14-3 run to take a comfortable lead. Collins had five points during the burst and his three- pointer a bit less than five minutes in made it a 55-27 game.
The Jayhawks led by as many as 40 points in the final minutes of the game to cruise to the win.
"We didn't make shots early. We shot too many threes early," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "We had a size advantage and shot too many threes. I expected us to come out and play a little flat early. We made some mental mistakes. Not having Mario hurt us offensively and with our pressure because he is usually a great starter. We played better in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was good to get the last (non-conference) win and now the real season begins."
