Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Freshman Jay Gavin scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Marist Red Foxes to a 76-66 win over the Manhattan Jaspers in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown at the McCann Center.
Spongy Benjamin also had a big night for the Red Foxes (9-6, 3-1 MAAC), tallying 15 points and seven rebounds, while David Devezin added 11 points in the win.
The Jaspers (7-7,1-3) were paced by Laurence Jolicoeu who scored 17 points off the bench. Rashad Green also got involved, scoring 12 points in a losing effort.
Marist got hot from the outside in the first half, connecting on 6-of-13 three- point attempts to take a 37-34 lead at the break.
The Red Foxes pulled away in the second stanza, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor to capture the 10-point win.
The Red Foxes were tenacious on defense, holding Manhattan to just 32.3 percent shooting from the field in the contest.
