Also posting a double-double for the Nittany Lions (10-4, 2-0 Big Ten) was Geary Claxton with 11 points and 11 boards in the team's seventh straight win.
The Fighting Illini (8-7, 0-2), losers of three straight, were led by Demetri McCamey off the bench with 18 points and five assists, while Calvin Brock tallied 15 points in the losing cause.
Penn State made a mere 31.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 2-of-10 beyond the arc, yet the squad still managed to lock the score at 31-31 at the break.
In the second half it was free-throw shooting that put the game out of reach for the visitors as they converted 15-of-24 at the stripe, compared to just 4- of-8 for Illinois in the four-point decision.
PSU completed dominated the paint with a resounding 49-24 rebounding advantage, clearing 22 offensive boards alone. The squad also outscored the home team at the charity stripe on the afternoon, 24-8.
