Mount Pleasant, MI (Sports Network) - Giordan Watson scored 12 points and handed out seven assists as the Central Michigan Chippewas recorded a 62-53 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in the Mid-American Conference opener for both programs at Rose Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Chippewas (6-7, 1-0 MAC) were Jordan Bitzer and Jeremy Allen with 11 points apiece as the team won for the second time in as many games.
The only double-digit scorer for the Eagles (4-9, 0-1), losers of five straight and seven of the last eight, was Zane Gay who dropped in 10 points off the bench.
EMU led by two points early in the first half, but shooting just 6-of-14 from the field in the period left the team with a 32-17 deficit at the break.
In the second half Central Michigan remained out of reach with 52.2 percent from the floor, en route to the nine-point home win.
The Chippewas made things interesting with just 8-of-16 shooting at the free- throw line, but thanks to 23 forced turnovers the team scored 29 points on EMU miscues.
