Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Jerrah Young registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Toledo Rockets picked up a 58-54 win over the Ball State Cardinals in Mid-American Conference play at Savage Hall.
Also scoring in double figures for the Rockets (4-9, 1-0 MAC) in their second straight victory were Tyrone Kent and Ridley Johnson with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Cardinals (1-12, 0-1), who had their only win of the season in their previous game on New Year's Eve versus IUPU-Ft Wayne, were led by Anthony Newell who tallied a game-high 22 points and cleared eight rebounds, followed by Peyton Stovall with 18 points in the setback.
Toledo shot a mere 11-of-30 from the field in the first half, including 2-of-10 behind the three-point line, yet the team trailed by just a single point at the break, 27-26.
In the second half is was Ball State's turn to fall apart with just eight total field goals, leading to a four-point road loss.
The Cardinals finished the afternoon shooting only 4-of-15 behind the three- point line and with 19 turnovers, which Toledo converted into 15 points during a game that saw seven ties and six lead changes.
