Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Manny Adako scored a team-high 18 points as the Northeastern Huskies slipped by the Georgia State Panthers, 64-62, in Colonial Athletic Association action at Matthews Arena.
Nkem Ojougbon added 14 points for the Huskies (5-8, 1-2 CAA) as they snapped a three-game slide and won their first league game of the season. Matt Janning added 12 points, despite missing all five of his three-point tries.
The Panthers (4-9, 1-2) were paced by Leonard Mendez who tallied a game-high 21 points, followed by Jihad Ali and Trae Goldston with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the squad lost for the third time in the last four outings.
Shooting just 39.3 percent from the field in the first half, Northeastern knocked down a mere 1-of-10 behind the three-point line and trailed at the break, 33-25.
In the second half the Huskies boosted their field goal accuracy to a sizzling 63.2 percent and also converted 14-of-18 at the free-throw line to secure the narrow two-point win.
The home team made up for a miserable effort out on the perimeter (2-of-14) by controlling the glass, 30-22.
