Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Ryan Stilphen completed a three-point play with just three seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Marist Red Foxes to a thrilling, 81-80 victory over the Rider Broncs in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference show down at the Alumni Gym.
Stilphen finished with 11 points for Marist (8-6, 2-1 MAAC), while Jay Gavin paced the team with 21 points in the victory. David Devezin contributed 14 points for the Red Foxes, while Louie McCroskey tallied 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Jason Thompson poured in 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Rider (8-6, 1-2), while Ryan Thompson posted 24 points in the setback.
Both Marist and Rider performed well offensively in the first half, as the Red Foxes shot 60.7 percent from the field, while the Broncs posted a 53.3 percent shooting effort. The offensive onslaught left the score knotted at 45-45 as the two teams entered the break.
Despite shooting a mere 35.3 percent from the floor in the second stanza, the Red Foxes connected on 10-of-14 free throw attempts en route to the one point win.
The bench for Marist posted 36 points in the contest, while the Broncs' reserves tallied only 15 points.
