New Rochelle, NY (Sports Network) - Charron Fisher, the nation's second leading scorer, finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds, as the Niagara Purple Eagles remained perfect in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play after a 74-67 victory over Iona at the Hynes Athletics Center.
Tyrone Lewis added 17 points in Niagara's (9-3, 3-0 MAAC) sixth victory in seven games. Benson Egemonye was the only other Purple Eagle that reached double digits, finishing with 10 points. Anthony Nelson recorded six of Niagara's 14 steals.
The Gaels (5-10, 1-2), who dropped their third straight contest, were led by Gary Springer's 18-point, 13-rebound performance. Devon Clarke chipped in with 16 points, while Dexter Gary and Rashon Dwight finished with 10 points apiece.
Fisher scored 21 points in the first half to pace Niagara to a 37-34 lead at halftime.
Iona kept it close in the second half, but the Purple Eagles hit 21-of-25 from the foul line to come away with the seven-point win
The victory gave Niagara its best start since the 1999-2000 season.
