Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Montell Watson tallied 18 points to pace the Elon Phoenix in a 72-63 win over The Citadel Bulldogs in a Southern Conference tilt at McAlister Field House.
Monty Sanders also had a big game for the Phoenix (6-7, 4-1 SoCon), scoring 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Ola Atoyebi chipped in 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Elon.
The Bulldogs (5-7, 0-3) were guided by Zach Urbanus, who netted 18 points and dished out six assists in the loss. Matt Clark also got involved tallying 17 points and nine rebounds, while Austin Dahn chipped in with 10 points.
The Citadel shot 40 percent from the field in the first half to open a 32-28 lead at the intermission.
The Phoenix stormed back in the second stanza, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor en route to the nine-point victory.
The Elon bench was the difference in the game, as the Phoenix' reserves outscored The Citadel bench 33-4.
