Spartansburg, SC (Sports Network) - Chattanooga trailed Wofford by as many as 14 points in the first half, but Stephen McDowell's six three-pointers sparked an 85-78 come from behind victory for the Mocs in Southern Conference play at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
McDowell led Chattanooga (9-5, 4-0 SoCon) with 19 points, while Khalil Hartwell contributed 16 points in the Mocs' fifth victory in six games. Marcus Watts pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and chipped in 11 points, and Matt Gwynne added 10 points for the victors.
The disappointing defeat snapped Wofford's (7-5, 1-2) three-game winning streak, as Shane Nichols and Drew Gibson each made six three-point field goals. Nichols finished with a game-high 23 points, and Gibson had 19.
Wofford primarily stayed on the perimeter in the first half, as the Terriers shot a robust 12-of-20 from three-point land to take a 48-38 lead into the locker room.
As the Terriers cooled off in the second frame, the Mocs shot 56.5 percent from the field and sunk 17-of-24 free throws in the seven-point victory.
The frontcourt of Chattanooga controlled the paint throughout the game, pulling down 12 more rebounds than the Terriers and outscoring them 32-12 under the basket.
