Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Donte Minter scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Appalachian State Mountaineers to a 70-66 win over the College of Charleston Cougars in Southern Conference play at John Kresse Arena.
The Mountaineers (6-6, 1-2 SoCon) received a spark from Jeremi Booth, who came off the bench to score 10 points in the win.
The Cougars (6-7, 1-2) were led by Jermaine Johnson, who scored 17 points and ripped down 15 rebounds in a losing effort. Tony White Jr. also got involved, scoring 13 points, while Andrew Goudelock came off the bench to net 12 points.
The Mountaineers managed to take a 28-27 lead at the half behind 42.3 percent shooting from the field in the opening frame.
In the second half, ASU shot 44.8 percent from the floor and converted 13-of-17 free-throw attempts en route to the four-point win.
The Mountaineers created plenty of scoring opportunities from their defense, turning 17 Cougar turnovers into 17 points.
