NCAA Game Summary - Illinois State at Wichita State

Final Score: Illinois State 49 - Wichita State 46

Wichita, KS (Sports Network) - Osiris Eldridge scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Illinois State outlasted Wichita State, 49-46, in a Missouri Valley Conference battle at Charles Koch Arena.

Boo Richardson and Emmanuel Holloway each scored 10 for Illinois State (10-3, 2-0 MVC), which has won five in a row. The Redbirds shot 38.1 percent (8- of-21) from beyond the arc -- better than the 36.5 percent of overall field goals they made.

Phillip Thomasson and P.J. Couisnard each netted 16 points, but Wichita State (7-6, 0-2) dropped its second in a row. The Shockers posted a woeful 28.3 percent field goal percentage.

In a trading-baskets affair, Thomasson hit a jumper to bring Wichita State within 44-43, with 1:45 left in the game.

But Dom Johnson answered with a three to put the Redbirds back up by four. Then, with 18 seconds left, Couisnard nailed a three to bring Wichita within two. But after being fouled with 12 ticks on the clock, Eldridge made 1-of-2 free throws for a 49-46 lead.

The Shockers had one last chance, but Gal Mekel missed an attempted three.

The teams traded leads in the first half, and Wichita went into halftime with a 24-23 lead. But the Redbirds went on a 12-0 run to start the second half, and Anthony Slack's three-point play put Illinois State up 35-24 a little more than six minutes in.

J.T. Durley responded with six straight points for Wichita State, on a three- point play and a three-pointer. They brought the school within 35-30 with 11:30 remaining, and it remained a two-possession game down to the wire.
