Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) - Trevor Booker and James Mays each scored 18 points to lead the 19th-ranked Clemson Tigers over the Alabama Crimson Tide, 87-61, at Coleman Coliseum.
Terrence Oglesby chipped in with 17 points for Clemson (12-1), which has won two in a row. K.C. Rivers tallied 15 points and grabbed eight boards for the Tigers, who will host North Carolina on January 6 in their ACC opener.
Alonzo Gee was the leading scorer for Alabama (10-4), with 17 points and six rebounds.
Richard Hendrix poured in 14 points and snagged seven boards, as the Crimson Tide had a six-game win streak snapped.
Alabama surprised their opponent early by hanging with them for the better part of the first half, taking a 19-15 lead after Rico Pickett drained a three-pointer to cap an 8-0 run with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.
Later, Clemson responded as Demontez Stitt sparked a 12-2 run with a layup. Stitt also capped the surge with another layup, with four minutes remaining, that saw the Tigers lead 34-29.
The Crimson Tide pulled closer in the waning minutes, but still went into the locker room trailing 40-35 at halftime.
The second half belonged to Clemson, as Rivers started a 13-2 run with 13:47 left after he hit a jumper. Booker capped the scoring spree with a dunk to make it a 65-45 Tigers advantage.
The Crimson Tide never posed another threat and the Tigers opened their biggest lead of the game at 31 points, 87-56, after David Potter hit a jumper with 1:37 left in play.
