Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Tirrell Baines scored a team-high 19 points as the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the San Diego Toreros, 76-60, in non- conference action at the Cam Henderson Center.
Matt Walls added 12 points off the bench for the Herd (7-4) as they won for the second time in the last three games. Mark Dorris chipped in 10 points despite shooting just 3-of-13 from the floor.
The Toreros (7-9), who had their two-game win streak snapped, were led by Brandon Johnson who dropped in a game-high 27 points on the strength of 5-of-8 shooting behind the three-point line.
San Diego was extremely flat in the first half, making a total of just six field goals in the frame, en route to a 43-24 setback at the break.
In the second half the Toreros bounced back a bit with 48.1 percent shooting from the floor, but it proved to be too little, too late in the 16-point setback on the road.
San Diego turned the ball over 16 times and was dominated on the glass, 34-22, on the afternoon.
