Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - A.J. Ogilvy and Shan Foster netted 20 points apiece as Vanderbilt set a record for the best start in school history with a 97-73 win at Memorial Gym.
Ogilvy added nine rebounds and a pair of blocks as well for Vanderbilt (13-0), which broke a school record established back in 2003-04.
Alan Metcalfe dropped in 14 points and George Drake added 10 in a winning effort.
Gary Springer paced his club with 17 points while Devon Clarke had 15 for the Gaels (5-9), who have dropped two in a row since a three-game winning streak.
The Commodores played the role of front-runner for most of the first half, and brought a 46-41 advantage into the locker room behind 12 points from Foster.
Any thoughts of an Iona upset were quickly extinguished when Vanderbilt opened the second stanza with a 10-0 burst. Jermaine Beal had six of those points, including a three-pointer about two minutes in that extended the lead to 56-41.
The Commodores finished 11-of-20 (55 percent) from beyond the arc.
Vanderbilt continued to build on its lead, and went up 67-46 on a triple by Drake with around eight minutes to play. That was part of a 9-0 run that didn't end until the Commodores were up by 24.
The Gaels didn't seriously threaten the rest of the way.
