Williamsburg, VA (Sports Network) - Danny Sumner came off the bench to score a game-high 13 points as the William & Mary Tribe posted a 71-50 win over the Fairfield Stags in non-conference play at Kaplan Arena.
Also hitting for double figures for the Tribe (4-7), winners of two of the last three, were Chris Darnell and Nathan Mann with 12 points apiece and Laimis Kisielius with 10 points as head coach Tony Shaver picked up the 400th victory of his college coaching career.
The Stags (3-9), losers of seven of the last eight games, were paced by Greg Nero with 12 points and six rebounds, followed by Jonathan Han with 11 points on a mere 3-of-11 shooting from the field.
William & Mary made a mere eight field goals in the first half, but six were from behind the three-point line, just enough to give the squad a 31-25 lead at the break.
In the second half the Tribe erupted for 50 percent shooting from the floor and limited the visitors to a mere 7-of-27, allowing W&M to capture the 21-point victory without much of a problem.
Setting the Tribe apart was an impressive 12-of-25 shooting effort beyond the arc on the afternoon, compared to 6-of-26 for Fairfield.
