GAME NOTES: A couple of Colonial Athletic Association teams seeking to put an end to their respective three-game slides finally get their opportunity this afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center as the Delaware Blue Hens host the UNC- Wilmington Seahawks.

Originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, this meeting was postponed due to a paralyzing winter storm that placed Delaware in a state of emergency on Friday night and into Saturday.

UNCW, which has a total of just three wins in CAA play thus far, was in action last Wednesday night and bowed to Virginia Commonwealth by a final of 73-60. The setback was the eighth in the last nine games for the squad.

As for the Blue Hens, a team showing a mere 2-10 record in league play, they were crushed by Northeastern at home last Tuesday by a score of 67-51 and for them it was their ninth loss in 10 tries, with the only victory during that stretch coming in overtime versus Georgia State on January 23rd.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, it favors the Seahawks by a count of 14-4. Delaware though, has been decent at home over the years with three wins in seven opportunities.

UNCW held the Rams to just 38.2 percent shooting from the field in the first half of their meeting last week, yet it still allowed VCU to post a sizeable lead at the break and eventually a 13-point road win at Trask Coliseum. The only player to score in double figures for the Seahawks was Chad Tomko with his 11 points, but he was also guilty of seven of the unit's 15 turnovers, while John Fields came up a point shy of a double-double as he cleared a team- best 11 rebounds in the losing effort. Tomko and Fields continue to be the only bright spots in an otherwise dismal season for the Seahawks, averaging 13.3 and 11.6 ppg, respectively. Fields has also laid claim as one of the better rebounders in the conference with just under 10 boards per outing.

Were it not for Jawan Carter and his three-point shooting, the Blue Hens would have been completely blown away by Northeastern last week. As it stood, Delaware still fell by double digits in front of the hometown crowd. Carter, who knocked down 6-of-11 shots beyond the arc and was 8-of-9 at the free-throw line, finished with 30 points, the third 30-point game of his career and the fourth straight 20-plus effort at the moment for the diminutive guard. The squad shot just 30 percent from the field and, if that were not bad enough, found out later that both Josh Brinkley and Kelvin McNeil had been lost for the rest of the season due to injury. Nonetheless, no matter who is available for the Hens, the fact remains that this team revolves around the efforts of Carter with his 18.3 ppg. Alphonso Dawson adds some scoring punch with 12.1 ppg for a squad that is putting up a mere 64.1 ppg.

Perhaps the extra time to prepare for this game will have helped the Blue Hens, who need all the assistance they can get, especially since they have to fill the gaps left by McNeil and Brinkley.
