Louisiana Tech (19-4) at New Mexico State (14-8)

GAME NOTES: The New Mexico State Aggies try to complete the season sweep of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs as the two squads meet in a Western Athletic Conference showdown at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces.

On Saturday, the Aggies logged their second straight win and their sixth in the last seven outings with a 94-82 triumph over the San Jose State Spartans at home. NMSU is now 8-3 at home in 2009-10 and tied with Louisiana Tech in the league standings at 7-2, trailing only Utah State heading into the week.

As for the Bulldogs, they've been out of action since last Thursday when they too took down the Spartans with a 71-64 victory in Ruston. The win was the second in the last three outings for LaTech.

NMSU won the first meeting of the season with LaTech back on January 30th in Ruston, posting a 91-77 victory as Hamidu Rahman registered a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the visitors. The Bulldogs' Magnum Rolle tried to keep his team in the mix with game-highs of 27 points and 15 boards in the losing effort.

The Aggies now lead the all-time series by a count of 9-3.

Louisiana Tech survived 3-of-12 shooting behind the three-point line and 14 turnovers as it posted the win over the Spartans last week at home. Magnum Rolle responded with a team-best 21 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots, while Kyle Gibson tacked on 18 points and five boards of his own. Rolle has led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of the last three outings and is now posting 14.7 ppg, in addition to clearing 9.1 rpg and having recorded 54 blocks. At the top of the LaTech scoring list is Gibson with his 21.5 ppg, making him one of the most potent shooters in the conference at the moment. With a total of five double-digit scorers, the Bulldogs have several sources they can look to as they come up with nearly 79 ppg.

The Aggies put five of their seven players in double figures on Saturday night, led by Jahmar Young who dropped in 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Jonathan Gibson scored 20 points, Troy Gillenwater tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Hamidu Rahman with 11 points and 13 boards. Wendell McKines contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists for a team that shot 11-of-21 beyond the arc. Getting Gillenwater back on the floor will be huge for the Aggies this season, seeing as he was an integral part of the program a year ago when he averaged 12.1 ppg. But make no mistake, this NMSU offense still operates according to Young, who leads the group with his 21.4 ppg, thanks in large part to his 121-of-143 at the free-throw line. Even though the Aggies have quality players on the glass in McKines (9.9 rpg) and Rahman (9.2 rpg), getting Gillenwater to relieve those guys and give them a breather with the postseason around the corner is key to this group's success right now.

As good as the Bulldogs might be, playing in the Pan American Center will be tough, and with Gillenwater back in the picture for NMSU, playing in the paint becomes that much harder as well.
