Marshall (1-1) vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay (0-2)

GAME NOTES: The Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix will try to claim their first victory of the season when they battle the Marshall Thundering Herd at the Ocean Center in the third round of the Glen Wilkes Classic. The Herd opened their season with a dominating 110-57 victory over West Virginia Tech, but the team could not carry its momentum into its next matchup, falling to Morgan State, 72-67. As for the Phoenix, they have dropped their first two games, losing to Utah (79-60), followed by a shocking 75-58 setback to little known Rollins College. After this matchup the Phoenix will battle Morgan State before returning to Green Bay for a four-game homestand. This bout marks the first-ever meeting between Wisconsin-Green Bay and Marshall on the hardwood.

The Thundering Herd did not have much success in their recent setback to Morgan State, as the team shot a lackluster 40.7 percent from the floor while also committing 18 turnovers. Markel Humphrey, who scored 14 points in the season opener, led the way in the loss to the Bears, posting 17 points to go along with nine rebounds. Shaquille Johnson was the only other player to reach double figures in the contest, as the guard tallied 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Because of the large amount of points scored in the opener, the Herd are averaging a whopping 88.5 ppg after two games.

For the second straight contest, the Phoenix put forth a terrible effort offensively, shooting 31 percent from the floor, which included a poor 8-of-25 showing from behind the arc. Troy Cotton was the only player to post double figures in the loss, as the guard tallied 20 points to go with nine rebounds. Center Mike Schachtner surprisingly struggled in the contest, netting just 1- of-7 attempts en route to a mere six points. It was the second consecutive game that the senior center had difficulty, as Schachtner only posted nine points in the opening loss to Utah.

The Phoenix have done very little to prove their worth offensively, and if the trend continues tonight expect Marshall to walk away with an easy victory.
