Charlotte (14-9) at Fordham (9-12)

GAME NOTES: The Charlotte 49ers will try to return to the win column when they take on the Fordham Rams this evening in an Atlantic 10 tussle at Rose Hill Gym. The 49ers have fallen on hard times over the past couple of weeks, losing three of their last four games, including a 62-60 setback to Xavier this past Wednesday. The recent slump has dropped Charlotte's league mark to a mediocre 5-4 on the year. Next up for Charlotte will be a road game against Richmond, followed by a home matchup against St. Louis. As for the Rams, they snapped a four-game losing skid with a hard-fought, 76-72 victory over Massachusetts this past Thursday. Despite the victory, Fordham is still just 3-6 in conference action. The Rams have also had some trouble at home, posting a mediocre 5-5 ledger at Rose Hill Gym. The 49ers have dominated the all-time series against Fordham, winning four of the five meetings, including a 74-60 decision earlier this season.

The 49ers might be averaging a mediocre 70.4 ppg on the year, but the team is shooting a mere 40.1 percent from the floor, and is also connecting on lackluster 34.2 percent from behind the arc. The majority of the production has come from Leemire Goldwire, who is pacing the team with 20.2 ppg. Lamont Mack is the only other player for Charlotte netting double figures, as the guard is averaging 11.0 ppg, despite shooting a woeful 36.9 percent from the field. The last time Charlotte was on the court, the team struggled in a loss to Xavier. In the two-point setback, the 49ers shot a pathetic 31.6 percent from the floor and made just 8-of-26 three-point attempts. Goldwire was the only player to score over 10 points for Charlotte, as the guard nailed 9-of-19 attempts from the floor en route to a 31-point performance.

The Rams possess three consistent scoring options but the team is still only producing a mere 65.3 ppg, while shooting 42.1 percent from the floor. Marcus Stout has been solid for Fordham, as the guard is posting 15.4 ppg to go along with 3.0 apg. Bryant Dunston has been a monster in the paint for the Rams and is currently netting 14.9 ppg to go along with team-highs in rebounds (9.6 rpg) and blocks (57). Brenton Butler is only shooting 34.6 percent from the floor on the year, but he is still chipping in 11.3 ppg. The rams erupted at the offensive end of the floor this past Thursday, as the team defeated UMass, 76-72. In the win, Fordham shot 44.4 percent from the field and made 22-of-31 attempts from the foul line. Stout led the way with 22 points and five assists, while Dunston posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. Sebastian Greene also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, while Butler chipped in 12 points.

There is no question that Goldwire will produce in this game for Charlotte. However, if Fordham can contain the rest of the 49ers, then the Rams could grab a much-needed win at home.
