Saint Peter's (5-19) at Canisius (4-20)

GAME NOTES: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action takes place in Buffalo this afternoon, as the Canisius Golden Griffins welcome the Saint Peter's Peacocks to the Koessler Center. It's been a struggle for Saint Peter's this season, as the Peacocks own a dismal 5-19 record, and has lost nine of its last 10 outings. The club's most recent setback, a 69-61 final against Marist, dropped Saint Peter's to just 2-12 in league play. A similar fate has been dealt to Canisius this year, as the Golden Griffins come into this matchup with a 4-20 mark, which includes a poor 2-12 tally in MAAC play. Canisus has lost three straight, including a 97-87 decision at Manhattan last Sunday. Canisius leads the all-time series between these two programs by a 35-23 count.

The Peacocks shot a respectable 45.5 percent from the floor during Sunday's loss to Marist, but were outrebounded (30-28) and were guilty of 19 turnovers. Todd Sowell scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Saint Peter's, and Nick Leon added 14 points in the losing effort. Sowell leads the Peacocks in scoring this season, tallying 12.5 ppg to go with an additional team-best 10.3 rpg. Wesley Jenkins checks in as the club's second-leading scorer with his 11.9 ppg. Darrell Lampley and Leon also own double-digit averages, tallying 10.5 and 10.1 ppg for Saint Peters.

The Golden Griffins shot a solid 46.9 percent from the floor during Sunday's loss at Manhattan, but a cold-shooting opening 20 minutes (.324) put Canisius in a 46-30 hole from which it could not recover. The poor first-half effort erased a fine performance at the other end of the court, as the Griffs forced 20 turnovers and won the battle on the boards by a 37-25 margin. Frank Turner scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Canisius, while Jovan Robinson added 16 points in the losing effort. Rishawn Johnson and Pawel Malesa chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench for the Golden Griffins, and Julius Coles netted 10 points. Canisius averages just 61.0 ppg, and Turner stands alone as the only double-digit scorer with his 12.7 ppg.

The season couldn't possibly get much worse for either team, but give an edge to Canisius at home. Saint Peter's owns a miserable 0-12 record on the road, so expect that mark to move to 0-13.
