GAME NOTES: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes are set to meet on the hardwood today in Albany, as the Siena Saints host the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds. Loyola enters the matchup on a bit of a down note, as the Greyhounds have lost two of their last three decisions. The club's most recent setback, a 92-87 final against Niagara last Sunday, dropped the Greyhounds to 14-12 on the season and 9-5 in MAAC play. As for Siena, the Saints have won three straight, including an 80-77 nailbiter at Rider last Sunday. The win improved Siena to 16-8 on the season, and it's league mark rose to 11-3. Siena leads the all-time series between the two programs, 30-14.
Loyola allowed the nation's second-leading scorer, Charron Fisher, to pour in a career-high 45 points during Sunday's loss to Niagara. The Greyhounds shot a respectable 46.0 percent from the floor, but struggled from three-point range (7-of-21). Gerald Brown scored 29 points to lead Loyola, while Brett Harvey added 20 in the losing effort. Brian Rudolph netted 14 points to go with five assists, while Omari Isreal tallied 13 points and collected seven rebounds for the Greyhounds. Brown, with his 19.4 ppg, leads the team in scoring this season, and is joined in double figures by Marquis Sullivan and his 11.7 ppg. Michael Tuck leads the club on the boards (7.0 rpg), and rounds out the trio with 11.1 ppg.
Josh Duell buried a three-pointer with 1.3 seconds left to lift Siena to a three-point victory over Rider on Sunday. The Saints shot 46.5 percent from the field during the contest, and forced Rider into 16 turnovers. Alex Franklin scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Siena, while Kenny Hasbrouck added 18 points in the win. Ronald Moore tallied 17 points to go with five boards and nine assists, and Duell netted 14 points. The Saints average a solid 76.7 ppg, and are led by three double-digit scorers, starting with Ubiles and his 16.1 ppg. Hasbrouck checks in with 15.9 ppg, while Franklin contributes 13.9 ppg and leads the Saints on the glass with 7.1 rpg.
Give the edge to Siena today, especially at home. The Saints have been hot as of late, while the Greyhounds have fizzled.
