Marist (15-10) at Manhattan (9-15)

GAME NOTES: The Manhattan Jaspers resume their five-game homestand tonight, as they host the Marist Red Foxes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Draddy Gym. After dropping their first contest of this homestand to Fairfield (66-61), the Jaspers were able to rebound with a 97-87 victory over Canisius on Sunday. The 97 points marked a season-high for Manhattan, which brought its lengthy eight-game losing streak to a close. The win also improved the squad to 9-15 overall and a still poor 3-11 in conference play. As for Marist, it kicked off a four-game road trip with a 69-61 victory over Saint Peter's on Sunday. The triumph put a stop to a three-game slide and improved the team to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Red Foxes have done a solid job on the road this season, posting a 6-4 ledger. Marist defeated Manhattan, 76-66, earlier this season, but the Jaspers still hold a 16-12 edge in the head-to- head series.

The Red Foxes shot a solid 47.1 percent from the floor, including an 8-of-18 performance from three-point range, as they defeated Saint Peter's in their last game. The team also forced 19 turnovers, scoring the same amount of points off those miscues. Ryan Schneider came off the bench and tallied 17 points to lead the way. Ben Farmer chipped in with 13 points and David Devezin had 11 points and eight assists. Jay Gavin was limited to just five points, but he still leads the team in scoring for the season with 13.3 ppg on the strength of 42.8 percent shooting from long distance. He is the only available player scoring in double figures for Marist, which is netting 70.4 ppg behind 45.0 percent shooting from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range as a team this season.

Manhattan drained 51.6 percent of its attempts from the floor and 10-of-23 from beyond the arc, as it posted a 97-87 victory over Canisius. The team went 23- of-36 at the foul line and it committed a mere five turnovers. Rashad Green, Andrew Gabriel and Darryl Crawford each tallied career-highs, finishing with 21 points apiece. Green also pulled down 11 boards and dished out seven helpers, while Devon Austin had 16 points and five assists. Antoine Pearson chipped in with 10 points and he still leads the team with 11.6 ppg for the season. Austin is second in order wt 10.8 ppg and he is grabbing 3.8 rpg. Overall, the Jaspers are scoring 69.1 ppg and hitting on 42.4 percent of their shots from the floor.

Marist has been the more consistent team this season and it should be able to use its balance and solid shooting to defeat the Jaspers tonight.
