GAME NOTES: Two of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association will battle this evening, as the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks will host the William & Mary Tribe at Trask Coliseum. The Tribe are coming off a tough, 51-42 setback to Northeastern this past weekend. However, it was just the second loss in the last 11 games for William & Mary. The loss to the Huskies dropped William & Mary to 9-4 in league action, tying them with George Mason for second place in the conference. As for the Seahawks, they snapped a small two-game losing skid with a convincing, 99-85 victory over James Madison this past weekend. It was the sixth win in the last eight contests for UNCW, which is now 8-5 in CAA play. The Seahawks have played well at home, posting a strong 9-2 ledger at the Trask Coliseum. Earlier this month the Tribe grabbed a slim, 70-66 victory over UNCW. However, despite the loss the Seahawks still hold a commanding, 34-16 lead in the all-time series.
The Tribe were atrocious this past Saturday in a loss to Northeastern. The team shot a meager 30.4 percent from the floor, and made only 5-of-20 three-point attempts. The lackluster offensive effort left William & Mary with only 42 points. Throughout the season the Tribe have been inconsistent offensively, as the team is netting just 64.7 ppg, while shooting a mere 42.9 percent from the floor. Laimis Kisielius is currently leading the squad in scoring, but the guard is posting just 11.8 ppg. Davis Schneider is second on the team with 10.9 ppg, but he is shooting a pathetic 34.8 percent from the floor. Nathan Mann, who was the only player to score double figures against Northeastern (12), rounds out the team's top scorers with 10.3 ppg.
As for the Seahawks, they have played well offensively, averaging 73.7 ppg, while leaning on a 47.7 percent shooting effort. Four players are currently producing double figures, with T.J. Carter leading the way at 16.0 ppg. Carter is also collecting 5.3 rpg and has a team-best 102 assists. Daniel Fountain and Vladimir Kuljanin are both contributing 13.6 ppg, while Kuljanin is also leading the team with 9.9 rpg. Todd Hendley rounds out the top performers with 12.4 ppg, but the guard has just 38 assists against 63 turnovers. The Seahawks exploded the last time they were on the court, scoring 99 points en route to a huge win over James Madison. The team shot a sizzling 61.8 percent from the floor and made 22-of-27 free throw attempts. Chad Tomko led the way with 24 points, but it was Carter who had the best, all-around game, as the guard posted 20 points to go along with five assists and six rebounds. Fountain also tallied 20 points for UNCW, while Kuljanin chipped in 15 points to go along with a team-high seven boards.
The Tribe slipped past UNC-Wilmington earlier this month, but do not expect the same result this evening at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks will liking avenge the loss to William & Mary, while pushing forward in the standings.
