Northeastern (11-12) at Hofstra (8-15)

GAME NOTES: The Northeastern Huskies try to extend their win streak to five in a row tonight as they tangle with the Hofstra Pride in Colonial Athletic Association action in New York. On Saturday, the Huskies hosted William & Mary in Boston and captured a 51-42 victory to move a game over .500 in conference play at 7-6. As for the Pride, they picked up their second win in the last three outings over the weekend with a 57-45 triumph over visiting Georgia State. Currently 6-4 at home this year, Hofstra is 5-8 in CAA play as well. Hofstra won the first meeting of the season with the Huskies by a score of 70-65 on the road in late January which means the Pride now lead the all-time series by a count of 13-8.

The defense by the Huskies in the first half of their meeting with William & Mary over the weekend was simply suffocating as the squad limited the visitors to a mere six field goals, en route to the win in Boston. Nkem Ojougboh accounted for 15 points and six rebounds for Northeastern, while Matt Janning contributed 10 points, despite shooting only 3-of-11 from the field on the afternoon. The 51 points scored by the Huskies were the fewest of the season, but thanks to a defense that has held three of the last four opponents below 50 points, it was just enough of an effort. Janning leads the team in scoring with his 16.1 ppg and he has made more three-pointers (46) than anyone else on the squad. Ojougboh contributes another 11.4 ppg and is first on the glass with 7.2 rpg, but without much help in the paint otherwise, the Huskies have virtually identical rebounding numbers (33.7 rpg) to those of the opposition. The same goes for scoring, with the Huskies putting up 64.6 ppg and allowing 64.7 ppg this year.

Antoine Agudio was back at it on Saturday as he tallied 25 points on 5-of-8 shooting behind the three-point line and 10-of-15 from the field overall, as he moved into third place on Hofstra's all-time scoring list. Also scoring in double figures for the Pride were Darren Townes and Charles Jenkins with 10 points apiece, combining for nine of the unit's 26 rebounds as well. Hofstra, which shot 52.4 percent from the field, suffered with 18 turnovers and just 7- of-15 at the free-throw line. Agudio (2,118 points), one of the top scorers in the nation over his 20 games with 22.7 ppg, is now just 30 shy of catching Loren Stokes for second place on the school's scoring list. Agudio is shooting an impressive 44.2 percent from three-point range and is one of just four players on the roster with double-digit assists (59). Unfortunately, sloppy ball handling has resulted in the team averaging just over 10 assists a game, but a lofty 17.2 turnovers per outing as well.

Hofstra is far from a dominant force these days, and considering how well the Huskies have played in the last couple of weeks it wouldn't be surprising to see Northeastern slip by on the road tonight.
