College of Charleston (10-12) at Appalachian State (14-7)

GAME NOTES: The Appalachian State Mountaineers looks for a season sweep of the College of Charleston Cougars in a Southern Conference slugfest at the Holmes Center this evening. On Monday, the Cougars halted a season-long four-game losing streak by upending The Citadel, 63-48. It was Charleston's second best defensive effort of the season as it has struggled in giving up 72.9 ppg. A tough matchup at Davidson looms in the rearview mirror before the Cougars host two home games next week. Nine wins in the past 10 contests has put Appalachian State at the top of the North Division of the SoCon, with the lone loss during that stretch was a tough 89-77 defeat at Chattanooga. The Mountaineers escaped with a 69-64 triumph at Western Carolina their last time on the hardwood, giving them a terrific 7-4 mark on the road. ASU managed a 70-66 victory over the Cougars back on January 3rd for its fifth win in the past seven meetings against its conference foe.

Tony White Jr's 17-point performance was vital in the College of Charleston stopping their losing streak against The Citadel. On the season, the guard leads the Cougars in scoring (13.4 ppg), three-pointers (51) and assists (69). He is one of four Cougars logging double figures, as Andrew Goudelock and Dustin Scott are putting up 12.9 and 10.7 ppg, respectively. Jermaine Johnson is one of the few inside presences for Charleston. He is amongst the league- leaders in rebounds at nine boards per game, while chipping in a solid 11.5 points per outing.

Donald Sims has certainly shown his fluid shooting stroke throughout the year. The guard leads the conference in free throw percentage (.869), while connecting on a tremendous 46.6 percent from behind the arc for 12.4 ppg. Donte Minter leads the squad with 12.9 ppg while grabbing 6.3 boards an outing. Both Sims and Clayton poured in a team-high 13 points in the victory over Western Carolina last weekend. Jeremy Clayton paces the squad with 7.2 rpg, while Kellen Brand rounds out the double-figure scorers by netting 11.3 ppg.

Besides the slip up at Chattanooga a few weeks ago, the Mountaineers have played some of the best ball in the Southern Conference the past two months. Expect ASU's production to continue as Charleston shouldn't pose much of a threat tonight.
