Clemson (16-5) at Virginia (11-9)

GAME NOTES: The Clemson Tigers and Virginia Cavaliers are set to do battle in an ACC clash in Charlottesville. Clemson has won two of its last three games to improve to 16-5 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Tigers are coming off a 78-56 romp over Boston College on Saturday, a rare blowout for a team that has played many close games since the start of conference action. In fact, three of the club's seven ACC tilts have been decided in overtime. As for Virginia, it sits alone in the ACC basement with a 1-6 record, clearly overshadowing the club's 11-9 overall mark. The Cavaliers are coming off a heart-breaking 72-65 overtime setback to rival Virginia Tech on the road this past Saturday, and that loss was the team's fourth in a row. Virginia holds a 64-48 series lead over Clemson, and the Cavs won the only meeting last season in a 64-63 final.

Clemson has been able to achieve outstanding balance at the offensive end of the floor this season, as five players are averaging double figures in scoring. K.C. Rivers leads the way with 15.1 ppg, and Trevor Booker is netting 11.8 ppg to go along with 8.1 rpg and 43 blocks. Terrence Oglesby adds 11.3 ppg to the mix, and James Mays is contributing 11.1 ppg. The fifth and final double-digit scorer is Cliff Hammonds, as he is posting 10.5 ppg in addition to 81 assists and 45 steals. The Tigers are generating 81.1 ppg this season while limiting opponents to 69.1 ppg. In the romp over Boston College on Saturday, Hammonds scored 14 points and recorded five steals, as the team once again managed five double-digit scorers. Clemson only turned the ball over nine times and forced 20 giveaways, key to the victory.

Things have not gone well for Virginia since the start of ACC play, but the team is still capable of winning any game regardless of the competition because of the presence of standout guard Sean Singletary. A truly explosive performer, Singletary has proven throughout his career that he is more than capable of taking over a game at the offensive end. He is scoring 18.7 ppg in addition to 6.3 apg. Mamadi Diane adds 12.4 ppg to the mix, and Adrian Joseph checks in with 11.8 ppg. Singletary poured in 26 points against Virginia Tech on Saturday, and Jamil Tucker added 10 points off the bench. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers connected on only 35.8 percent of their field goal attempts and finished with six more turnovers than assists.

Expect Virginia to score a much-needed win tonight in front of the home crowd. Singletary is worth the price of admission, as he can do a little bit of everything from the guard position.
