Elon (7-14) at Davidson (15-6)

GAME NOTES: The Davidson Wildcats look to continue their perfect run through the Southern Conference when they host the Elon Phoenix tonight at Belk Arena. The Wildcats have simply been unstoppable in league play this season, winning their first 13 matchups to extend their conference regular season winning steak to 23 games. Davidson has been tested in its last few times on the hardwood, but the squad made the necessary plays down the stretch to pick up victories. The Cats needed six late free throws to overcome a tenacious Chattanooga squad, 78-71 last weekend. Elon meanwhile, was handed its fifth straight defeat last Saturday, posing little resistance in an 89-60 drubbing at the hands of UNC Greensboro. The Phoenix started conference play by winning four of their first five affairs, but the squad has managed just one victory in the past eight SoCon meetings. The Phoenix wrap up a disappointing five-game road trip with a visit to Wofford on Saturday. Elon hasn't defeated Davidson since the 2000-01 season, a stretch that includes a 59-57 loss to the Wildcats three weeks ago.

Ola Atoyebi has tried to carry Elon on his broad shoulders, but he hasn't had much help from his teammates. The forward leads the team in points (13.7 ppg), rebounds (6.5 rpg), field goal shooting (.583) and free throw shooting (.809). Brett James has stepped up his game to assist Atoyebi, as he's led the team in scoring in five of the past six games, including a team-high 16-point effort in the 29-point loss to UNCG. He has improved his season averages to 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Montell Watson has contributed 10.6 ppg, while leading the team with 37 trifectas and 61 assists.

Southern Conference Player of the Month, Stephen Curry, has paced the Wildcats to a league-leading 79.6 ppg. He has a terrific shooting touch, nailing 87 three-pointers and shooting .869 from the free throw line, including a 6-of-6 effort from the stripe en route to a team-high 24 points against Chattanooga. The guard is also a turnover-happy defender, averaging two steals a game. Jason Richards continues to lead the nation in assists with 8.4 per game. He is also chipping in 12.8 ppg, while sinking 44.7 percent from the field. Boris Meno is collecting a team-high 6.2 boards per game, while Thomas Sander is averaging 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per outing.

Elon's two-point setback three weeks ago will be as close as any SoCon team gets to Davidson this season. The Wildcats have too many options and one of the best combinations in the nation in Curry and Richards.
