GAME NOTES: The Buffalo Bulls will try to earn their first league win tonight when they take on the Northern Illinois Huskies in a Mid-American Conference battle at the NIU Convocation Center. The free falling continues for the Bulls, as the team is currently in the midst of a terrible nine-game losing skid. The latest setback was a 100-96 overtime loss to Central Michigan. It was the second consecutive overtime loss for Buffalo, which is now winless in eight conference games this year. Buffalo has also struggled on the road, losing all 10 of its games away from home. As for the Huskies, they have lost five of their last six games, including three in a row. The last time the team was on the floor, NIU was defeated by Ohio, 73-55. The recent skid has dropped the Huskies to just 2-6 in league play. Northern Illinois has only five wins on the year, but all five have come at the Convocation Center. Last season the Bulls grabbed an 80-74 victory over NIU. However, despite losing, the Huskies still hold a 13-8 edge over Buffalo in the all-time series.
The Bulls posted 96 points the last time they were on the floor, however the team still fell to Central Michigan by a four-point margin in overtime. In the loss, the Bulls shot 45.5 percent from the field and made 21-of-35 attempts from the foul line. Andy Robinson led the way with 22 points, while Rodney Pierce contributed 21 points. Max Boudreau added 12 points off the bench, while Byron Mulkey tallied 10 points. Robinson has been the only real consistent player for Buffalo, as the guard is averaging 11.9 ppg, despite shooting just 37.0 percent from the field. As a whole however, the team is netting a mediocre 70.3 ppg, while shooting a mere 40.2 percent from the floor.
The Huskies have been atrocious throughout the season offensively. In fact, the lack of production at that end of the floor is the main reason for the team's terrible 5-15 ledger. NIU heads into this contest averaging just 64.2 ppg, while shooting a mere 40.9 percent from the floor. Darion Anderson is the only player netting double figures for the Huskies, as the guard is producing 10.1 ppg, while also grabbing 4.7 rpg. The offensive woes for NIU continued this past weekend, as the team fell to Ohio by an 18-point margin. NIU shot below 40.0 percent in the contest, and made only 6-of-22 three-point attempts. Sean Smith led the way with 19 points in the loss, while Anderson added 16 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The Bulls have come close to victory the last two times their were on the floor. Tonight the team should finally grab a win against a very weak Northern Illinois squad.
