(4) North Carolina (20-1) at Florida State (13-9)

GAME NOTES: ACC action takes place in the Sunshine State this afternoon, as the fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels invade the Tucker Center to take on the Florida State Seminoles. Roy Williams' squad has won two straight games since suffering its only defeat of the season, an 82-80 setback to Maryland. Since then, the Tar Heels have knocked off Miami-Florida (98-82) and Boston College (91-69) to move to 5-1 in ACC play, trailing only Duke (7-0) in the conference standings. The Seminoles have not been as successful in league action. FSU has lost two straight and five of its last six games, including an 89-80 loss at Virginia Tech last week. Still, the Seminoles are an impressive 10-2 at home this season. The Tar Heels hold a 36-8 edge in the all-time series with the Seminoles and have won 17 of the last 20 meetings, overall.

The Tar Heels have posted 90+ points in each of their last two games, but that is nothing new for North Carolina, as the team is one of the nation's most productive units, averaging 91.4 ppg. The Heels have dominated in just about all facets of the game, outrebounding foes by 11.2 boards per game, while forcing 17.5 turnovers. It all starts with All-American forward Tyler Hansbrough. The 6-9 junior has been unstoppable since walking on the Chapel Hill campus and this year has been no different. Hansbrough is shooting 55 percent from the floor and leads the ACC in scoring (21.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg). Hansbrough also gets to the free-throw line abundantly, converting a whopping 172-of-210 charity tosses this season (.819). He gets plenty of help along the perimeter with sniper Wayne Ellington (16.6 ppg) and savvy point guard Ty Lawson (14.1 ppg). Ellington is shooting nearly 40 percent from long range with a team-high 41 three-pointers. Lawson ranks third in the ACC in assists (6.0 apg). Junior swingman Danny Green (11.8 ppg) is one of the ACC's best bench players. In the recent rout of Boston College, UNC shot .515 from the floor, as all five starters finished in double digits. Hansbrough led the way with 18 points. Deon Thompson (17 pts), Lawson (16 pts), Ellington (14 pts) and Marcus Ginyard (10 pts) continued the scoring deluge. Lawson completed a double-double with 10 assists.

The Seminoles will be at a disadvantage offensively against North Carolina, but most opponents are. FSU hasn't been dreadful at the offensive end, as the team does possess some firepower, averaging 73.6 ppg, on 45.6 percent shooting. Where the team has thrived, is at the charity stripe, leading the nation in free-throw accuracy at .790. Junior guard Toney Douglas has been one of the most versatile performers in the ACC this season. Douglas leads the Seminoles in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and assists (70) and paces the entire ACC in steals (60). Four others are boasting of double-digit averages, with Jason Rich (12.5 ppg), Isaiah Swann (12.0 ppg), Uche Echefu (11.3 ppg) and Ralph Sims (11.0 ppg) all making contributions. The problem is that there is little else in the cupboard, with the next player in the scoring column averaging just 5.2 ppg. The Seminoles were unable to keep up offensively on the road in Blacksburg last week, despite shooting 51 percent from the floor. Rich hit four three-pointers en route to a team-high 22 points. Douglas added 17 points and doled out six assists. Mims also netted 17 points, while Ryan Reid chipped in 11. FSU turned the ball over an unforgiving 22 times in the game though and was outscored at the free-throw line, 35-17.

The Seminoles get this game at home and have been strong at the Tucker Center this season. However, UNC likes to get up and down the floor and FSU may not have enough in the tank in the second half to keep up.
