Kent State (17-4) at Toledo (6-13)

GAME NOTES: The Kent State Golden Flashes will try to remain on top of the Mid-American Conference standings when they take on the Toledo Rockets this afternoon at Savage Hall. The Golden Flashes have been the toughest team in the MAC and head into this contest with wins in seven of their last eight games. The last time KSU was on the court, the team grabbed a solid, 77-67 victory over EMU. With the win, the Golden Flashes are now 6-1 in league play and 4-3 on the road. As for the Rockets, they have lost three of their last four games, including an embarrassing, 68-52 setback to Akron this past Wednesday. The loss dropped the Rockets to just 2-4 in MAC action. Toledo is only 6-13 on the season, however all six wins have come at home. Kent State has won 11 of the last 15 matchups against Toledo. However, the Rockets still own a commanding, 77-40 advantage over the Golden Flashes.

The Flashes are the most balanced team in their conference, and are currently scoring 69.8 ppg, while surrendering just 62.4 ppg. Mike Scott has led the way offensively, as the forward is averaging 13.8 ppg to go along with 6.1 rpg. Al Fisher has ran the show on the court, and is currently netting 12.3 ppg, while dishing out a team-high 93 assists. Haminn Quaintance has been the main source of production in the paint, as the forward is chipping in 10.2 ppg to go along with a team-high 7.5 rpg. The last time KSU was on the court the team grabbed a 10-point win over EMU. In the victory the Flashes shot 52.9 percent from the field and made 10-of-23 attempts from long range. Mike McKee paced the team with 19 points, while Fisher tallied 13 points to go along with eight assists. Chris Singletary tallied 12 points, while Scott chipped in 10 for Kent State.

The Rockets do not match up well with the Golden Flashes, especially when considering the team is producing just 59.4 ppg, while shooting only 39.4 percent from the floor. Tyrone Kent has been the main scoring threat for Toledo, as the guard is posting 17.5 ppg. Jonathan Amos rounds out the double- figure scorers with 12.6 ppg, and is also pulling down 5.5 rpg. The offensive struggles for Toledo continued earlier this week, as the squad fell to Akron, 68-52. In the setback the Rockets shot a pathetic 34.0 percent from the field and also committed 18 turnovers. Anthony Byrd led the way with 12 points, while Jerrah Young chipped in 11. As for Kent and Amos, they combined to go 3- of-22 from the floor, finishing the game with three and eight points, respectively.

The Flashes play tough defense and considering how poorly the Rockets are at producing points, this should be an easy victory for KSU.
