Richmond (10-8) at Rhode Island (17-3)

GAME NOTES: The Rhode Island Rams will try to remain flawless at home tonight, as they entertain the Richmond Spiders in Atlantic 10 play at the Ryan Center. The Rams come into the game with a perfect 9-0 record at home and that includes a 2-0 mark against league foes. On Saturday, URI stepped out on the road, where it scored an 89-77 victory at St. Bonaventure. It was the second win in a row and the third in four games for the Rams, who improved to a healthy 17-3 overall and 3-2 in conference action. As for Richmond, it is fresh off its biggest win of the season, an 80-63 upset of then nationally-ranked Dayton on Saturday. It was the first victory over a ranked opponent at home in 18 years for the Spiders, who have won two of their last three outings to improve to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in A-10 play. The team now heads back out to the road, where it has gone 3-4 thus far. Richmond leads the all-time series with URI, 8-4, and it has won three of the past four encounters.

The Spiders prefer a slower tempo style of game and because of that they are averaging just 63.3 ppg on 44.2 percent shooting from the floor. Dan Geriot is the squad's top scorer at 14.8 ppg and his 4.8 rpg average also leads the team. David Gonzalvez chips in with 11.1 ppg and he is dangerous from long range, hitting on 46.3 percent of his tries. In the team's last game, Gonzalvez sank 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc and he finished with 20 points in the Spiders' upset of Dayton. Geriot poured in 19 points for Richmond, which shot 55.3 percent from the field, including an 11-of-21 effort from downtown. The team even won the battle on the boards, 30-25, and that may have been the biggest surprise considering the Spiders are being outrebounded by 5.8 rpg on the season.

The Rams are one of the premier scoring teams in the A-10 and they enter the tilt averaging a hardy 82.4 ppg behind an efficient 48.0 percent shooting from the floor. Will Daniels is the driving force behind this attack and he ranks first on the team in scoring (18.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.8 rpg). Jimmy Baron has provided a nice complement to him with 16.0 ppg and he lethal from three-point range (.449) and at the foul line (.973). Parfait Bitee has been responsible for setting up the duo with a team-high 5.1 apg to his credit and he also rounds out the double-figure scorers at 10.3 ppg. In the club's most recent outing, Daniels poured in 24 points on 8-of-18 field goals, as URI cruised past St. Bonaventure over the weekend. Baron had 18 points and five assists, while Bitee put forth 16 points and six helpers. The Rams did most of their damage from long distance, connecting on 13-of-27 attempts.

URI is clearly the more explosive and dynamic team here and it should be able to control the tempo and the paint, en route to the victory tonight.
