Santa Clara (10-9) at San Francisco (5-14)

GAME NOTES: Still searching for that illustrious 800th victory, head coach Eddie Sutton will lead his Dons of San Francisco against the Santa Clara Broncos this evening in a West Coast Conference battle at the War Memorial Gym. After winning seven of their first 10 games, the Broncos have struggled, losing six of their last nine matchups. The last time Santa Clara was on the court the team suffered a heartbreaking, 53-51 loss to San Diego. The loss dropped Santa Clara to just 2-2 in league action and just 5-6 in road contests. As for the Dons, they have lost nine of their last 10 games. Since Coach Sutton won his 799th contest against Portland, the team has lost two straight games against Gonzaga (72-64) and Saint Mary's (79-57). San Fran is only 3-4 in home contests this season, and in league play the team has a terrible 1-3 ledger. This has been a historic all-time series, as the two teams have battled 190 times on the hardwood. Throughout the years, Santa Clara and San Fran have put forth tremendous efforts, and at this point, the Broncos have a slim, 97-93 advantage.

There is nothing special about the Broncos offensively, as the team is netting just 64.2 ppg, despite shooting 48.8 percent from the field. John Bryant is the only real scoring threat for Santa Clara, as the center is leading the team with 17.3 ppg to go along with 9.2 rpg. Brody Angley has run the show on the floor and is currently posting 12.4 ppg to go along with a team-high 5.2 apg. The offensive woes continued this past weekend, as the team fell to San Diego, 53-51. In the loss, the Broncos shot 44.2 percent from the field, but made just 2-of-16 three-point attempts. Once again the team was paced by Bryant, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Dowdell chipped in 13 points, while Angley made only 3-of-11 shots from the field en route to a seven-point performance.

The Dons were not impressive this past Saturday against Saint Mary's, as the team fell to the Gaels by a 22-point margin. San Fran shot 45.5 percent from the field, but the team made only 2-of-8 shots from behind the arc and committed 16 turnovers in the contest. Dior Lowhorn and Manny Quezada both posted 19 points apiece in the loss, while Myron Strong chipped in 10 points. Lowhorn also grabbed seven rebounds for the Dons, while Quezada dished out seven assists. Lowhorn has been the best scoring option for San Fran, as the forward is leading the team with 20.5 ppg to go along with 7.4 rpg. As for Quezada, he is averaging 15.5 ppg and is also leading the team with 74 assists. As a whole, San Francisco is posting just 66.3 ppg on the year, while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor.

The Dons could finally get coach Sutton his 800th victory. San Francisco will have its hands full with Bryant, but other than him, the Dons are much better offensively, and should grab a slim victory.
