College of Charleston (9-11) at Wofford (11-8)

GAME NOTES: A couple of programs headed in opposite directions square off at Benjamin Johnson Arena tonight, as the College of Charleston Cougars tangle with the Wofford Terriers in Southern Conference play. The Cougars enter the contest in a little slump, as they have dropped three consecutive outings. On Saturday, the CofC concluded an unsuccessful two-game homestand by dropping a 70-58 decision to league-leading Davidson. With the recent string of losses, the Cougars have fallen below .500 overall (9-11) and in conference play (4-6). As for Wofford, it has followed up a three-game slide by winning each of its last three contests. The team was recently in play on Saturday, when it notched an 83-73 triumph over Western Carolina. Thanks to the recent victories, the Terriers now stand at 11-8 overall and 4-5 against conference foes. In terms of the all-time series, the CofC leads Wofford, 70-44, and it has won the last five encounters, including a 70-60 victory in an earlier meeting this month.

The Cougars shot a dismal 33.9 percent from the field, including a poor 3-of-17 performance from downtown, as they were upended by Davidson this past weekend. The team also struggled a bit at the foul line (15-of-24) and it also lost the battle on the boards, 41-38. Andrew Goudelock led the CofC with 13 points, while Jermaine Johnson recorded a double-double with 11 points and the same amount of rebounds. Tony White Jr. also got involved, scoring 11 points on the strength of 9-of-11 free throws. For the season, White Jr. leads the Cougars with 13.3 ppg and he is also dishing out a team-high 3.1 apg. Goudelock is next in line with 12.9 ppg and he is the squad's top three-point threat, hitting on 39.6 percent of his attempts. Johnson nearly averages a double-double with 12.1 ppg and a team-best 9.0 rpg, while Dustin Scott contributes 10.3 ppg and 6.5 rpg. As a whole, the Cougars are producing 73.3 ppg this season, although they are giving up a slightly higher 74.4 ppg.

The Terriers shot a blistering 60.0 percent from the field and they made 9- of-15 long-range attempts, as they pulled away from Western Carolina over the weekend. The squad also held a 20-11 edge in free-throw attempts, in addition to winning the battle on the glass, 31-25. Junior Salters nailed 5-of-7 shots from three-point land and he finished with 26 points and five assists for Wofford. Tim Johnson had 17 points and seven boards off the bench, while Drew Gibson turned in 14 points and eight rebounds. The Terriers played the game without leading scorers Shane Nichols, who is nursing an injured ankle. Nichols is averaging a solid 15.6 ppg for the season, but he is listed as questionable for tonight's bout. Gibson is the only other player on the roster averaging in double figures at the moment, with 10.5 ppg. Overall, Wofford is posting 68.5 ppg this season and it has done most of its damage from beyond the arc, connecting on 42.4 percent of its tries.

The Cougars have fared well against Wofford over the years and if they can defend the three-point shot successfully, they should be able to continue that trend tonight.
