GAME NOTES: Colonial Athletic Association play will take place this afternoon when the Northeastern Huskies host the Hofstra Pride at Matthews Arena. It has been a rough season for the Pride, who come into this game with four losses in their last five contests. The last time Hofstra was on the court, the team suffered a tough, 82-65 setback to VCU. Hofstra is just 2-6 in league play this season, and on the road the squad has struggled with a terrible 1-7 ledger. As for the Huskies, they have lost three of their last four games, including a tough, 77-69 setback to UNC-Wilmington this past Wednesday. Northeastern is just 7-11 on the season, but at home the team has played well, winning four of its five games at Matthews Arena. Next up for Northeastern will be back-to-back road games against Delaware and Drexel. Hofstra leads the all-time series against Northeastern by a slim, 12-8 margin.
Antoine Agudio continues to shine this season, however the rest of the Pride have not enjoyed success. Agudio is currently averaging 22.2 ppg, but the team as a whole is producing just 65.7 ppg. The only other player netting double figures is Charles Jenkins, who is chipping in 14.5 ppg to go along with 4.4 rpg and 34 steals. The last time Hofstra was on the court the team suffered a tough 17-point loss to VCU. In the setback, the Pride shot 53.2 percent from the field, but made just 1-of-9 three-point attempts and also committed 22 turnovers. Jenkins led the way in the loss with 18 points, while Darren Townes posted 16 points. As for Agudio, he tallied just 10 points and dished out five assists in the setback.
Just like their counterpart, the Huskies have struggled offensively, and come into this matchup netting just 65.9 ppg, while shooting a mere 42.6 percent from the field. Matt Janning has been the top performer for Northeastern this season, as the guard is scoring 16.2 ppg. However, Janning has more turnovers (53) than assists (49) on the season. Nkem Ojougboh has been the main option down low, as the big man is contributing 11.5 ppg to go along with 7.4 rpg. Manny Adako has also played well for the Huskies, and is chipping in 11.4 ppg. The last time Northeastern was on the court the team suffered an eight-point loss to UNC-Wilmington. In the setback, the Huskies were led by Janning, who scored 21 points. Adako, Baptiste Bataille and Vinny Lima all chipped in 10 points apiece. As for Ojougboh, he posted nine points in the loss.
It is always a tough task when going against Agudio, but the Huskies have more offensive weapons and are tougher defensively. The fact that Northeastern is home is another thing that leans in the Huskies' favor.
