GAME NOTES: A battle for first place in the Big Sky Conference will take place this evening, as the Weber State Wildcats will host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks this evening at the Dee Event Center. The Lumberjacks have been chopping down their opposition over the past couple of weeks, winning five of their last six games, including three in a row. The last time NAU was on the court, the team grabbed a strong, 80-69 victory over Sacramento State. The win pushed NAU's league mark to 5-1 and brought the team's road ledger to an even 4-4. As for the Wildcats, they are riding an impressive five-game winning streak. The latest victory was also over Sacramento State, 69-56. The win over the Hornets extended the Wildcats' home record to 7-1 and more importantly pushed the squad's league mark to 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats have dominated the all-time series over NAU, posting a 61-23 edge over the Lumberjacks. The Wildcats have also dominated play in Ogden, winning 39 of the 44 matchups played in their home town.
The Lumberjacks have played well offensively this season and have done a commendable job on the glass, and the success in both areas has led to the team's 13-6 ledger. NAU is currently posting 73.8 ppg, and is averaging 6.1 rpg better than its opposition. Kyle Landry has been sensational this season, and is leading the team with 16.9 ppg and 8.9 rpg. Running the show on the court has been Josh Wilson, who is netting 12.0 ppg to go along with a team- high 108 assists. Nate Geiser, who is chipping in 10.1 ppg, has been lights out from behind the arc, netting 43.5 percent of his attempts. The last time NAU was on the floor the team grabbed an 11-point win over Sacramento State. Geiser led the way with 21 points in the win, while Landry added 19 points and nine rebounds. Wilson posted 19 points and dished out eight assists, while Zarko Comagic chipped in 10 points.
The Wildcats are currently limiting opponents to just 65.8 ppg, but at the same time the team is averaging just 65.3 ppg. Dezmon Harris and Arturas Valeika are the only two consistent scoring threats for Weber State. Harris is netting 10.9 ppg, while Valeika has been a terror in the paint, chipping in 10.3 ppg to go along with 9.0 rpg. The Wildcats were victorious in their last contest, defeating Sacramento State by 13 points. In the win, Weber State shot 51.8 percent from the field and was led by Steve Panos, who netted 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Harris added 13 points in the win, while Valeika tallied 11 points to go along with nine rebounds.
The Wildcats are a surprisingly tough team defensively and that should play a large role in this matchup. With homecourt advantage on their side, the Wildcats should be able to grab a slim victory.
