Virginia (11-5) at Florida State (12-7)

GAME NOTES: The Virginia Cavaliers have made their way to Tallahassee for tonight's ACC clash with the Florida State Seminoles. Virginia carried a three- game losing skid into Saturday's clash with Boston College, and the Cavaliers avoided an 0-3 start to league play by knocking off the Eagles, 84-66. That win enabled Virginia to move to 11-5 overall, and nine of the club's victories have come at home. In true road games, the Cavaliers are 2-2. As for Florida State, it has lost its last three game to fall to 12-7 overall and 1-3 in ACC action. All three setbacks during the current slide have come by double figures, including a 74-57 loss to Wake Forest on Sunday. The Seminoles do have some reason for optimism tonight, however, as they are 9-1 at home. Virginia holds a 17-14 series edge over Florida State, but the 'Noles have won their last five home games against the Cavaliers.

Virginia relies heavily on the talents of Sean Singletary at the offensive end of the court. Singletary is scoring 18.9 ppg on 41.3 percent shooting from three-point range, and he has dished out 105 assists, nearly half of the team's total through 16 games. The Cavaliers are getting 12.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg from Adrian Joseph and 11.7 ppg from Mamadi Diane. In the win over Boston College on Saturday, Diane came through with 20 points, while Singletary finished with 19 points and 10 assists against only one turnover. Singletary also recorded six steals, proof of his all-around ability. Joseph pitched in 17 points for the Cavs, and Calvin Baker added 15 points. Virginia only turned the ball over six times in the clash and limited the Eagles to 38.7 percent overall shooting.

Toney Douglas leads a balanced offensive attack for Florida State with 13.7 ppg. Isaiah Swann and Jason Rich are both netting 12.1 ppg, and Uche Echefu checks in with 11.9 ppg. The fifth and final double-digit scorer in the mix is Ralph Mims, who is contributing 10.8 ppg. FSU is posting 73.9 ppg as a team while allowing 67.0 ppg to the opposition. The Seminoles shot a lowly 35.7 percent from the floor in the loss to Wake Forest on Sunday. They finished with three more turnovers than assists in that clash and were both outrebounded and outscored from the foul line by a margin of five. Mims had 17 points in defeat, while Uche Echefu contributed 13 points and 11 boards.

Go with FSU tonight, as it needs a win desperately and clearly plays its best ball at home. Still, Singletary will keep the Cavaliers in the game from start to finish.
