Ohio University (11-6) at Buffalo (6-10)

GAME NOTES: Still in search of their first league victory, the Buffalo Bulls will host the Ohio Bobcats this evening in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Alumni Arena. The Bobcats are winners of two of their last three games, and are coming off a strong, 71-59 victory over Kent State this past Saturday. It was the second conference win for Ohio this season, which also defeated Miami-Ohio. The Bobcats have just six losses on the year, but five of those setbacks have come on the road. As for the Bulls, they have lost five consecutive games, with the most recent setback coming this past Sunday against Miami-OH, 64-57. Buffalo is just 6-10 on the season, but at home the squad is an impressive 4-1. Ohio has dominated the all-time series against Buffalo, winning 18 of the 22 matchups against the Bulls.

The success for this Ohio squad has come mainly from the play in the frontcourt, as the tandem of Leon Williams and Jerome Tillman has been the best in the MAC. Williams is currently leading the team with 15.9 ppg, and 9.9 rpg. As for Tillman, he has been almost as successful, netting 14.5 ppg to go along with 7.4 rpg. Taking care of business in the backcourt is Bubba Walther, who is contributing 11.1 ppg. The guard is only shooting 36.1 percent from the field, but does have 55 assists on the season and is leading the team with 26 steals. The Bobcats posted a shocking victory over a very tough Kent State squad this past Saturday, defeating the Golden Flashes, 71-59. In the win, the team shot 48.3 percent and was led by Bert Whittington, who scored 26 points. Tillman added 23 points, while Williams only posted seven points, but did collect 10 rebounds.

The Bulls do not possess the number of offensive scoring options that Ohio has. In fact, there is not a single player on the Bulls who is averaging double figures. Andy Robinson is currently leading the team, but he is posting just 9.8 ppg. Sean Smiley is second on the team with 9.6 ppg, but the guard is shooting an atrocious 32.2 percent from the field. The horrendous offensive play for Buffalo continued this past weekend, as the squad was defeated by Miami, 64-57. In the loss, the Bulls shot a terrible 35.0 percent from the floor and made just 4-of-17 attempts from long range. Smiley led the way with 13 points, while Calvin Betts chipped in 12 points to go along with nine rebounds. As for Robinson, he struggled tremendously, missing all seven of his attempts from the floor, en route to a two-point performance.

Although the Bobcats have struggled on the road, the team is far too talented to lose to a weak Buffalo squad. Expect the duo of Williams and Tillman to continue their dominance in the MAC.
