Weber State (8-8) at Montana (7-10)

GAME NOTES: The Weber State Wildcats will attempt to continue on their current hot streak this afternoon as they drop in on the Montana Grizzlies for a Big Sky Conference tussle at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. Since opening 2007-08 with just two wins in eight attempts, Weber State has bounced back with a mark of 7-2 and has won three straight. On Thursday night the team slipped by Montana State on the road in a narrow 78-76 decision. As for the Grizzlies, they too played a tight contest three nights ago, but in their case they came out on the short end of a 56-54 setback to Idaho State at home. The loss was the third in four games for Montana, which hosts Eastern Washington next Thursday to close out a three-game homestand. With respect to the all-time series between these two schools, WSU holds a 52-47 edge over the Grizzlies, winning the most recent meeting by a score of 73-67 last year.

Juan Pablo Silveira's pair of free throws in the waning moments proved to be just enough as the Wildcats picked up the two-point win over Montana State on Thursday night. Dezmon Harris was one of four players to score in double figures for the visitors with his 27 points, adding eight rebounds. Steve Panos tossed in 17 points in 18 minutes as well. Arturas Valeika tallied a double- double with 12 points and 12 boards and Kellen McCoy chipped in 10 points off the bench. Harris is averaging just 10.4 ppg this season as the team's top scorer, but when it comes to league competition he has boosted that number to a more respectable 16.5 ppg over four games. Valeika accounts for 10.0 ppg overall, but in his case his scoring drops to a mere 6.0 ppg in league action. However, the big man's strength on the glass increases from nine rebounds per game overall to 11 per outing versus the rest of the Big Sky.

Down by as many as 14 points in the first half, the Grizzlies had to be proud of their ability to fight back, even if they still fell by a basket to Idaho State. Jordan Hasquet accounted for a team-best 16 points, as he made 9-of-12 at the free-throw line. Andrew Strait and Matt Martin followed with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Montana currently has three players who are scoring in double figures on a regular basis, beginning with Hasquet and his 15.6 ppg. Hasquet is also the top rebounder for the program with a shade over eight boards per game. Matt Martin chips in 12.1 ppg as the primary three-point threat at 43 percent, while Strait comes in with 11.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

Weber State was knocked around by some non-conference opponents earlier this season, but it appears as though the Wildcats have figured out what they need to do in order to be successful in Big Sky play.
