GAME NOTES: Still in search of their first league victory, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies will battle the Richmond Spiders this evening in Atlantic 10 action at the Robins Center. The Bonnies have struggled recently, losing five of their last six games, including two in a row. The last time St. Bonaventure was on the court, the team suffered a 72-61 setback to La Salle. The Bonnies are 6-10 on the year, but on the road the team has been dreadful, losing all eight matchups away from home. As for the Spiders, they had their four-game winning streak snapped with a rough, 81-63 setback to Saint Joseph's this past Saturday. Richmond, which is 1-1 in league action, posted a terrible 10-22 mark against conference foes over the two previous seasons. After this matchup, the Spiders will remain home to battle La Salle and Dayton. St. Bonaventure posted a 61-53 victory over Richmond last season, but despite the loss the Spiders still have a solid 6-2 edge over the Bonnies.
The Bonnies' offensive display throughout the season has been less than stellar, which is why the team is a mere 6-10 on the year. St. Bonaventure comes into this game averaging just 64.1 ppg, while shooting only 41.2 percent from the floor. Michael Lee is one of the only real scoring threats for the Bonnies, as the forward is netting 18.4 ppg, while also collecting a team-high 8.5 rpg. Zarryon Fereti is the only other player producing double figures, as the guard is posting 14.7 ppg. The offensive woes for the Bonnies continued this past weekend, as the team suffered an 11-point loss to La Salle. In the setback, St. Bonaventure shot a meager 34.8 percent from the floor and made only 6-of-22 shots from behind the arc. Lee was once again the main source of production, netting 18 points to go along with 11 boards. D'Lancy Carter contributed 14 points, while Fereti chipped in 13 to go along with seven rebounds.
Just like their counterpart, the Spiders have had trouble finding their way offensively throughout this campaign. Richmond is currently producing just 61.2 ppg, while shooting 42.9 percent from the field. The team is committing 16.3 turnovers per matchup and is also losing the battle on the glass by 7.4 rpg. The leader of this team has been center Dan Geriot, who is averaging 14.2 ppg and 5.0 rpg. David Gonzalvez is the only other player netting double figures at 10.4 ppg, while shooting an impressive 43.8 percent from behind the arc. The last time Richmond was on the floor the team shot a strong 47.9 percent from the field, but still fell to Saint Joseph's, 81-63. Once again the team made far too many mistakes, committing 16 turnovers, while also losing the rebound battle again, this time by a 36-18 margin. Geriot led the way in defeat with 15 points and six boards, while Ryan Butler also tallied 15 points.
These two teams have had trouble performing offensively, so expect a low scoring affair. Richmond has a few more options at that end of the floor and should grab a victory at home against St. Bonaventure, which is winless on the road.
