GAME NOTES: The red-hot William & Mary Tribe will try to grab their fourth consecutive league win when they host the Northeastern Huskies in a Colonial Athletic Association tilt at the Kaplan Arena. The last time Northeastern was on the court the team suffered an embarrassing, 80-52 setback to George Mason. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Huskies and also dropped the team's road ledger to a mere 3-8 on the season. Next up for Northeastern will be a home game against Delaware. As for the Tribe, they have played well of late, winning three consecutive games. The last victory was a thrilling, 60-58 win over Georgia State on the road. William & Mary, which is coming off an 8-10 ledger in league play last year, is now 3-2 in CAA action. This will be the third-ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood. Last year William & Mary evened things with a 60-57 victory over the Huskies.
Northeastern has not had much success offensively this season, as the team is netting just 66.1 ppg, while shooting 42.1 percent from the field. Matt Janning is without question the team's best option on offense, as the guard is producing 16.0 ppg. Manny Adako has also played well on the year, averaging 11.6 ppg. The main man in the paint for Northeastern has been Nkem Ojougboh, who is currently posting 11.1 ppg to go along with a team-high 7.7 rpg. The last time the Huskies were on the court the team suffered a tough, 80-52 setback to George Mason. In the loss, the Huskies shot 42.0 percent from the floor, but made only 5-of-16 shots from behind the arc and also lost the battle on the glass, 30-21. Chaisson Allen led the way with 13 points, while Janning and Ojougboh contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
During the team's recent win streak the Tribe has done a terrific job defensively, limiting team's to just 61.6 ppg. The last time William & Mary was on the court the team held Georgia State to only 58 points on a mere 37.7 percent shooting effort. At the other end of the floor, the Tribe shot 47.8 percent from the field and was led by Nathan Mann and his 11 points. David Schneider and Laimis Kisielius both tallied 10 points apiece in the win. Both Schneider and Kisielius have been the top two performers for William & Mary all season, as Schneider is leading the team with 12.5 ppg and 4.8 rpg, while Kisielius is contributing 10.7 ppg. Offensively, the Tribe have been inconsistent throughout the season, netting 65.5 ppg, while shooting a mere 42.8 percent from the field.
The Tribe have played well lately and should continue their solid defensive play against a very weak offensive team in Northeastern.
