Siena (9-6) at Canisius (2-13)

GAME NOTES: Still waiting for their first win in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action this season, the Canisius Golden Griffins give it another shot this afternoon as they host the Siena Saints at the Koessler Center in Buffalo. Canisius has a grand total of just two wins this season, coming against the likes of Coastal Carolina and Maine and since that victory over the Black Bears on New Year's Eve, the Griffs had dropped three in a row. On Friday night, the squad bowed to Manhattan at home by a final of 69-65, dropping Canisius to 0-5 in MAAC play. As for the Saints, they picked up their fourth league win in five chances two nights ago when they toppled Niagara on the road, 94-84. The win was the second in the last three games for Siena, which has alternated wins and losses now over the last six contests. Canisius has lost three in a row to the Saints recently, which has led to Siena taking a 40-36 advantage in the all-time series

Edwin Ubiles shot not only 11-of-14 from the field, he also converted 4-of-6 behind the three-point line en route to his team-high 28 points in the win over Niagara on Friday. Tay Fisher and Ronald Moore checked in with 18 points apiece, the latter adding seven assists and six rebounds as well, while Alex Franklin contributed 12 points off the bench. The leading scorer in each of the last two games, Ubiles is producing a healthy 17.2 ppg for himself so far in 2007-08. Not only is he shooting 55.5 percent from the field, he has converted 19-of-37 (.514) beyond the arc as well, helping the team to reach 41.1 percent from the perimeter as a group. The only player to have started every game thus far, Kenny Hasbrouck accounts for 15.4 ppg, while Franklin and Moore chip in 15.1 and 10.2 ppg, respectively, for a team coming up with close to 80 ppg this season.

Frank Turner used his 39 minutes of the floor Friday night to come up with a team-best 18 points, but his efforts were not quite enough as Canisius bowed to the Jaspers by four points at home. Jovan Robinson hit on 4-of-6 beyond the arc to arrive at his 15 points off the bench, while Greg Logins posted 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds as well. When it comes to conference play this season the Golden Griffins have been simply awful, scoring a mere 56.2 ppg while allowing MAAC foes a hefty 76.2 ppg. In those five outings Canisius doesn't have a single player who is scoring in double figures on a consistent basis. Taking into account all 15 games thus far, Turner is tops on the scoring list with his 11.5 ppg and is also tops with 76 assists. Except for Robinson (8.6 ppg), Turner is the only player on the roster with more assists than turnovers at the moment, the team averaging about 17 miscues per contest.

Canisius nearly got over on the Jaspers a couple nights ago, but against a team like Siena the Griffs haven't got a prayer.
