Loyola-Maryland (6-8) at (3) Kansas (14-0)

GAME NOTES: In what appears to be an extremely lopsided non-conference affair, the undefeated and third-ranked Kansas Jayhawks welcome the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds to Lawrence. Loyola had lost three straight games and six of its last seven overall heading into Sunday's clash with Iona. Fortunately, the Greyhounds managed a 63-51 victory over the Gaels to even their MAAC record at 2-2. They have lost all six of their true road games to date, not a good sign as they head into Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas is 11-0 at home and certainly looks the part of a Final Four contender. The Jayhawks, who have yet to play a Big 12 game, are coming off an 85-60 decision over Boston College on the road on Saturday. That triumph marked the 11th double-digit win in 14 outings, impressive to say the least. This game marks the first-ever meeting between Kansas and Loyola-Maryland on the hardwood.

Without question, the go-to guy at the offensive end for Loyola-Maryland is Gerald Brown. Having started all but one game this season, Brown is averaging 19.1 ppg, but his 37.1 percent shooting from the floor leaves much to be desired. The only other double-digit scorer in the lineup is Marquis Sullivan, as he is posting 11.4 ppg on the strength of his 40.4 percent shooting from three-point range. Loyola is scoring 69.1 ppg while limiting opponents to 71.9 ppg. Brown scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the way in the win over Iona. Brian Rudolph pitched in 12 points off the bench for Loyola, and 10 of his points came from the foul line. It is surprising that the Greyhounds were able to win a game in which they finished with nine assists and 26 turnovers. Fortunately, they were able to limit Iona to 33.3 percent overall shooting.

Kansas is scoring 83.6 ppg this season on 52.4 percent shooting from the field, and the club is limiting opponents to 58.5 ppg on 38.5 percent field goal efficiency. The Jayhawks have forced their opponents into 281 turnovers, an average of 20 per outing, and they are pulling down six rebounds per game more than their foes. Darrell Arthur leads four double-digit scorers with 13.7 ppg, and Darnell Jackson checks in with 12.5 ppg. Mario Chalmers is close behind with 12.0 ppg, and he is tops with 67 assists and 44 steals. Rounding out the foursome is Brandon Rush with 10.9 ppg. In the 25-point road win over Boston College on Saturday, Jackson posted 25 points and nine rebounds, while Arthur tallied 22 points. Kansas shot 53.2 percent from the field and limited the Eagles to 42.3 percent. A 39-24 rebounding edge certainly helped the cause.

Clearly, this game will probably be decided by intermission, as Kansas is far superior to Loyola in all aspects. The Jayhawks are tremendously athletic and poised for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament run.
