B-Y-U (11-3) at Wake Forest (10-3)

GAME NOTES: Two teams that have remained undefeated at home this long into the season clash at Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem tonight, as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons try to fend off the BYU Cougars in a non-conference bout. BYU, which owns the nation's longest home win streak at 39 games, left no doubt last week when the squad crushed Loyola Marymount at the Marriott Center, 91-62. The victory was the fourth in the last five games for the Cougars who are now 8-0 in their own building in 2007-08. As for the Demon Deacons, they've won all nine of their home games thus far, although some of the competition has been suspect. Last Wednesday, Wake entertained Presbyterian at home and got by with a 12-point win, 70-58, the team's fifth in a row since losing back-to-back road jaunts versus SEC foes Vanderbilt and Georgia. With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Deacs are ahead by a count of 2-1 heading into this contest, capturing a 108-93 win in the most recent encounter way back in 1969.

Lee Cummard led three players in double figures as he tallied 18 points for the Cougars in their win over Loyola Marymount last week. Off the bench Jonathan Tavernari contributed 17 points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds for the victors, while Trent Plaisted checked in with 12 points and seven boards in 23 minutes. In addition to forcing 19 turnovers, BYU also limited the Lions to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field. Plaisted, who is now shooting better from the field (.572) than he is at the free-throw line (.567), leads the program in both scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg). Cummard is making a sizzling 60.9 percent of his field goal attempts and 43.4 percent beyond the arc, leading to 16.1 ppg, which fits nicely with 6.1 rpg and almost four assists per game. Outscoring opponents by more than 16 ppg through 14 contests, the Cougars have held foes to just 37.9 percent shooting from the field and a paltry 29.5 percent behind the three-point line.

James Johnson knocked down a game-high 18 points to lead the Demon Deacons to the 12-point win over Presbyterian last week. Also scoring in double figures for Wake Forest were Jeff Teague and L.D. Williams who each tallied 14 points. Although he failed to score a single point in 28 minutes of work, Ishmael Smith was responsible for 11 of the unit's 17 assists and also collected a team-best seven rebounds for the Demon Deacons as they shot 51.9 percent from the field, but just 4-of-16 beyond the arc. Johnson leads the team in scoring at the moment with his 13.5 ppg and is also first on the glass with close to nine rebounds a game, but those numbers still don't make up for the fact that he continues to shoot from behind the three-point line where he is just 20.4 percent (10-of-49) accurate. Williams and Harvey Hale contribute 10.9 and 10.3 ppg, respectively, for a squad making just 29.4 percent behind the three-point line over the course of 13 games.

The fact that Wake Forest had trouble putting away Presbyterian has to be a concern for the team heading into a heated meeting with BYU. The Cougars may not be perfect on the road this season, but they are certainly not a team to be taken lightly.
