South Alabama (10-3) at Florida Atlantic (4-9)

GAME NOTES: The South Alabama Jaguars will try to remain perfect in league action when they battle the Florida Atlantic Owls this evening in a Sun Belt Conference tussle at FAU Arena. The Jags have recorded a win in eight of their last nine games, including six in a row. The last time South Alabama was on the floor the team collected a solid, 70-57 victory over Jacksonville. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 season the Jags are an impressive 27-7 in league play, and that includes the team's 2-0 mark at FAU Arena this season. As for the Owls, they have lost two of their last three games, including a rough, 71-52 setback to UL-Lafayette this past Saturday. FAU is only 4-9 overall on the season, but at home the team has collected a 2-1 mark. After tonight, the Owls will hit the road for three of their next four games. This series between South Alabama and FAU started just this past year and the first two matchups were split.

Demetric Bennett heads into tonight's matchup with FAU leading four players in double figures, as the guard is producing 20.3 ppg, while also collecting 5.8 rpg. Domonic Tilford has been solid off the bench, contributing 14.1 ppg for USA. As for Daon Merritt and Brandon Davis, they have also done well this year, netting 12.1 and 10.8 ppg, respectively. The last time South Alabama was on the court, the team committed 18 turnovers, but was still able to grab a 13- point win over Jacksonville. In the victory, the Jags shot 44.4 percent from the field and was led by Davis who posted 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Merritt added 13 points for the Jags, while Bennett chipped in 12 points despite shooting a mere 5-of-13 from the floor. It has not always been pretty for the Jags this year, but overall the unit has produced, netting 75.1 ppg.

Unlike their counterpart, the Owls have had very little success offensively. In fact, the team has just one player averaging double figures in Carlos Monroe (17.6 ppg), while also collecting 9.4 rpg. As a whole, this squad is netting a mere 64.0 ppg, while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor. The last time FAU was on the court the team scored just 52 points en route to a 19-point setback to UL-Lafayette. In the loss the Owls posted a meager 40.2 percent shooting effort. The team struggled from behind the arc (3-of-12) and also had trouble connecting from the foul line (15-of-26). In the loss, the team was led by Monroe, who scored 15 points for FAU. Sean Alarcon was the only other player to chip in double-digits, posting 13 points in the loss.

The Owls are home, and should be able to keep the game close in the first half, but look for South Alabama to pull away in the second stanza. The Jags have far too many options offensively for the Owls to contend with.
