University of Portland (5-8) at Yale (3-7)

GAME NOTES: Non-conference action will take place tonight at the Amphitheater, as the Yale Bulldogs will host the University of Portland Pilots. The Pilots fly across country and head into this matchup with a small two-game winning streak in tow. The last time Portland was on the floor the team grabbed an easy 72-46 victory over Cascade College. Portland has struggled on the road this season, losing four of the five matchups away from home. After this game, the Pilots will remain on the road for the next three matchups. As for the Bulldogs, they have lost seven of their last nine games, including two in a row. The last time Yale took the court, the team was embarrassed by Kansas, 86-53. Yale is only 3-7 on the year, however two of those wins have come at home. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood.

THe Pilots have been inconsistent offensively throughout the season and head into this contest netting just 66.5 ppg, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. Nik Raivio is currently leading the squad with 13.5 ppg, while Sherrard Watson is the only other player netting double figures, posting 10.8 ppg. The last time Portland was on the floor the team put forth a solid offensive effort, but it came against Cascade College. In the 16-point victory, the Pilots overcame 21 turnovers and shot a solid 52.9 percent from the field. Ethan Niedermeyer and Robin Smeulders both tallied 13 points in the win, while Watson added 12 points. Jared Stohl chipped in 10 points off the bench, while Raivio posted nine points.

The Bulldogs were atrocious the last time they took the floor, scoring just 53 points in a 33-point setback to Kansas. In the loss, Yale shot a mere 37.0 percent from the field and also committed 27 turnovers, which turned into 28 points for Kansas. Porter Braswell led the way with 13 points in the loss, while Eric Flato chipped in 10 points. Inconsistent offensive play has been a problem for Yale, as the team is netting just 65.3 ppg, while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. Flato and Caleb Holmes are the only two players averaging double figures for the Bulldogs, as Flato is netting 12.0 ppg, while Holmes is chipping in 10.8 ppg.

The Pilots might be a little sluggish from their flight across country, and due to that, the Bulldogs should be able to grab a victory at home.
