Idaho State (3-9) at Washington (8-4)

GAME NOTES: Winners of four straight, the Washington Huskies close out their non-conference schedule today with a meeting against Idaho State at Bank of America Arena in Seattle. The Huskies were last in action on Saturday when they defeated LSU by a score of 73-65 on the road. Safe at home, Washington has a record of 7-1 in its own building thus far, with nationally-ranked Washington State coming in this weekend to begin Pac-10 Conference play. As for the Bengals, they have just three victories overall this year, but none of much consequence. On Saturday night, the squad snapped a four-game slide by slipping by Northwest Nazarene in a 71-66 decision. The other two wins for the team in 2007-08 have come versus Montana State-Northern and in-state rival Idaho in overtime. With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Huskies have won all three previous meetings, slipping by in the most recent affair, 61-60, back in 1993.

Leading by as many as 12 points in the second half, the Bengals were lucky to still come away with the five-point decision at home last week. Demetrius Monroe had team-highs with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Matt Stucki registered a double-double of his own with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists. Amorrow Morgan accounted for 14 points, Austin Kilpatrick had 11 points and seven boards, and Logan Kinghorn tallied 10 points on just 3-of-12 shooting from the floor before fouling out. Stucki, who also had seven rebounds in the win Saturday night, leads the Bengals in both scoring (12.2 ppg) and assists (36), with Morgan checking in with 10.1 ppg, despite shooting a woeful 4-of-22 behind the three-point line. Far from a threat out on the perimeter this season, Idaho State has knocked down just 26.8 percent from three-point range, compared to 42.5 percent for opponents. Add to that a 40.7 percent effort from the floor, and it is easy to see how the Bengals are being limited to just 57.5 ppg thus far.

It was a tale of two halves for the Huskies against LSU on Saturday, the team going from just 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 0-of-6 beyond the arc, in the opening frame to 60.7 percent after the break. Jon Brockman came up with yet another double-double with 15 points and a team-best 12 rebounds, while Quincy Pondexter contributed 17 points and five rebounds off the bench. Tim Morris and Ryan Appleby chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively. Brockman, who is shooting almost as well from the floor (.555) as he is at the free-throw line (.569) through 12 starts, continues to average a double-double for the unit with 18.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per outing. Appleby, a 51.4 percent shooter beyond the arc, checks in with 13.8 ppg and Justin Dentmon an additional 11.8 ppg. Washington, which is outscoring opponents by more than six points per game and is topping those same teams on the glass by eight per outing, has had considerable issues at the charity stripe thus far at a mere 60.1 percent.

A team in need of an offensive boost, the Bengals are going to find out today just how far off the pace they are against the rest of the college world as the Huskies sprint to the easy victory at home.
