Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Deron Williams had 17 points and tied a season-high with 20 assists, as Utah overcame an early hip injury to Andrei Kirilenko and stretched its home court winning streak to 16 games with a 116- 110 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Carlos Boozer had 28 points and seven rebounds before fouling out for the Jazz, who used a 16-0 stretch in the fourth quarter, on the way to their second straight victory overall and a 26-3 mark at EnergySolutions Arena this season. This is Utah's longest home winning streak since capturing 20 straight from the end of the 1997-98 season to the beginning of the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign.
Mehmet Okur finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Kyle Korver ended with 17 points and Ronnie Brewer scored 15 in the victory.
Josh Howard had 25 points to lead Dallas, losers of back-to-back contests following a 108-104 road overtime defeat to the Lakers on Sunday. Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 to go with seven rebounds, but he was booed nearly every time he touched the ball due to his takedown of Kirilenko in the opening quarter.
Jason Terry scored 21 and Jason Kidd ended with 19 points and nine assists for the Mavericks, who rallied from a 21-point first-quarter deficit to go ahead in the fourth, only to falter thanks to incredible foul shooting from the Jazz.
Utah ended 30-of-33 from the foul line, making all 18 in the final quarter and its last 24 of the game, covering nearly 32 minutes.
Kirilenko was sent out of the arena for tests on his right hip after he was corralled to the floor by Nowitzki with 7:04 left in the opening quarter. Kirilenko had the ball and pumped-faked near the basket to get Nowitzki in the air. Nowitzki's arm then wrapped around the neck of Kirilenko, who came crashing to the floor on his hip.
Kirilenko remained on the court face-down for a couple of minutes before finally getting up. Nowitzki was called for a flagrant foul, and Kirilenko made both foul shots, but was bent over in pain and then limped off the court to the locker room.
"It was a tough situation," Nowitzki said. "He pump-faked me under the hoop and I left my feet and didn't want to give up the 'and one.' So I kind of tried to grab him, and unfortunately grabbed him around the neck. Obviously, things went so fast. I didn't mean to grab the neck, but I just tried to hold him so he doesn't score. I happened to grab his neck and it was a bad fall. It was a bad situation. I felt bad but these things happen. Hopefully he'll be okay."
Preliminary x-rays were inconclusive, and Kirilenko departed the arena in a wheelchair device for a local hospital for more tests. Further x-rays were negative and Kirilenko returned to the arena.
"We just wanted to make sure he was all right at first," Boozer said. "Obviously, with his history we wanted to make sure he was okay. We heard x- rays are negative, but we'll see how he recovers from it. As for us, we just stepped up and took it over from there."
Kidd's jumper capped nine straight points for the Mavs to give them a 92-89 lead with 6:29 remaining, but the Jazz came back with a flurry by scoring the next 16 points.
Boozer's two free throws gave Utah the lead with 5:34 left and Korver nailed a big three during the run, which ended when Nowitzki was assessed a technical foul. Korver made the ensuing free throw and Harpring finished off a pair from the charity stripe with 3:13 left and a 105-92 Jazz advantage.
"Another game that felt like a playoff atmosphere," Williams said. "Anytime you play a Western Conference opponent, everybody is just fighting for a playoff spot, so we knew it was going to be a tough game coming in. It was a fun game to be a part of. I wish we would have held onto the lead, we let that slip away. We knew they were going to make a run, but we should have put them away a little earlier."
Dallas was able to get as close as four points, at 114-110 on Kidd's three- pointer with 19.2 seconds left. However, Korver connected on two foul shots and Terry missed a three to continue Utah's home streak.
The Jazz scored 14 in a row in the opening quarter for a 25-6 lead, and expanded that to 35-14 following a Williams jumper with 2:52 left in the period. It was 37-24 after 12 minutes and 64-50 at the half.
Dallas rallied toward the end of the third, but still trailed 87-81 going into the final quarter.
