Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Al Horford finished with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, as the Atlanta Hawks beat the New York Knicks, 99-93, in a turbulent game at Philips Arena.
Josh Smith had a team-high 25 points and brought down nine boards for Atlanta, which has won two in a row. Joe Johnson had 20 points, while Mike Bibby scored 11 and tacked on 10 assists in the win.
Zach Randolph finished with game-highs of 29 points and 17 rebounds, while Jamal Crawford added 21 points and eight assists for New York, which has lost three of five. David Lee had 14 boards to go with six points.
The game featured 20 ties and 39 lead changes, and was only decided in the final minute.
Randolph made a jumper with 2:51 left -- the first points of any kind for more than three minutes -- to put the Knicks ahead 91-90. Almost two more minutes went by before Bibby lofted a pass to the left of net, which Smith brought down with a dunk with 1:12 on the clock, starting a decisive six-point run.
Bibby followed with a jumper from just a few feet inside the three-point line at the right bend, as the clock approached half a minute. After a Knicks timeout with 30.7 showing, Randolph missed a jump hook, and the ball bounced several times before coming down to Smith.
Several New York fouls later, Bibby made his way to the free throw line for two attempts with 11.5 ticks left. He made both to put Atlanta up 96-91, and the Hawks closed out the game by making 3-of-4 from the line.
"It was important that we kept our composure when we didn't score," Horford said. "I felt like the effort on the defensive side was the important thing. They took the lead, but we took it back, and made a couple plays down the stretch to seal the win."
Said Crawford: "We got the shots we wanted, we just couldn't get them to fall...This was a tough game and, unfortunately, the ending was all too familiar."
Atlanta maintained a small lead for most of the first quarter, though was only able to take a 26-22 edge into the second, as Smith and Johnson closed the first stanza with back-to-back buckets.
New York held a 50-48 edge at halftime, and the Hawks led 81-78 heading into the fourth quarter.
